2018 WEC Spa
« on: May 05, 2018, 12:09:11 PM »
Fisico is due to do his return race to the WEC today, in the #54 GTE-Am Spirit of Race with Thomas Lohr and Francesco Castellaci. He says in this Endurance Info article (link in French) that he is looking forward to being a teacher to his team-mates.

As far as I can tell, the race is about to start. You can hear it on radiolemans.com if (unlike me) your computer speakers work.

The #54 Spirit of Race will start from 30th (7th of 9 GTE-Am cars), with an average time of 2:18.917, and Francesco Castellaci will be the starting driver.

Here is a photo of Fisico in his racing gear - the overalls are white with some red stripes, and the original helmet design's white, yellow and green makes a nice contrast. Andrea Bertolini also posted a photo that made me giggle - they had a photo of all the official Ferrari drivers together, and everyone is in their bright red Ferrari T-shirts and might-as-well-be-uniform casual blue jeans... ...except for Fisico, who for some reason is in a tuxedo!

Forza Fisico, Francesco, Thomas e Spirit of Race!

Update: Race will actually start in 3 minutes. There is free live timing available here, via the WEC site.

That was a rubbish start to the season - we're already under a Safety Car. Still waiting to hear why.

Meanwhile, it turns out there's a reason Fisico is starting 7th-in-class and it's nothing to do with the drivers. Apparently the Ferrari was so far off the pace of its Am competitors that 7th was the best they could hope for in class - which, happily, was delivered by Fisico and his team-mates :)

It appears that may just have been an extra Safety Car lap due to crossing the line too early. Phew!

Green flag, and Francesco's made a place at the start. Next target is the #90 TF Sport (Yulic, 5th Am).

Now we have an actual Safety Car, because the #86 Gulf has crashed at Turn 6 and it needs retrieving.

As I was typing that, we are back to racing.

Something has definitely happened to the #50 Larbre - it just lost a bunch of positions...

The Larbre has rejoined and is now immediately behind the four-way fight for 3rd in GTE-Am. That chain is #90 TF Sport, which just overtook the #88 Dempsey, which is just ahead of the #54 Spirit of Race, that is fending off the #61 Clearwater.

Francesco has passed the #88 Dempsey (Sawa), and is now 5th in GTE-Am :) Next up is the #90 TF Sport (Yolic).

Francesco is currently clear of the pursuing Clearwater, and is right behind the #90 TF Sport (Yolic, 4th Am).

The #4 ByKolles briefly caught fire. Meanwhile, the live timing has fallen over and I am no longer sure how Fisico's car is doing.

The #70 GTE-Am MR Racing spun in avoidance of a prototype. Not sure if Fisico has benefitted from this because I still have no live timings...

I think he did. Ferrari Races just said his car is 2nd in GTE-Am. Bravo Francesco!
